Observation Certificates (Basic)
Binocular: Must observe at least 50
objects from the Herschel Catalogue.
Telescope: Must observe at least 200
objects from the Herschel Catalogue.
Instrument Size: Binoculars: Giant
Binoculars such as 15 x 80’s or larger are recommended but not required for
this award. Tripod mounting is a must.
Telescope:
An 8” Telescope or larger is recommended but
not required for this award.
Required Information: Date, Time, Location, Object
#, Binoculars (power and size) or Telescope: (size, type, F/#, power), Sky
Conditions.
Requirements:
Binoculars: Required to observe at

categories: such as star clusters or galaxies or nebulae.
Telescope: Required to observe at
least 200 objects of which some of
the objects must be from different categories: such as star clusters or
galaxies or nebulae.
All
must observe, identify, draw or describe each object.
