How he did it:

This is from Nov.8, a stack of ~150 frames from an AVI captured from a Toucam via K3CCD, and stacked with Registax3.

If you look closely at the lower right side of the photo, there's a light patch, an area called Nix Olympia by Mars Previewer. I only noticed it after comparing the two images!
